Dropping an ask just to see your perspective, but I want to know what’s your take on Sabo’s thing with devotion. Like with Ace or the cause and stuff. Asking just to see if this concept is also interesting to you as it is to me ^^

HELLO DEAR MOOT!! first of all, i apologize if this took so long, a lot of life stuff happened preventing me from focusing on The Blorbo, but i’m here now!

i do find sabo’s relationship with devotion quite undeniable and interesting, in fact it’s one of the many things that make his character so appealing to me.

when it comes to ace, and luffy by extension, his devotion translates very well into unconditional love. to use sabo’s own words, theirs is a bond that will never break, no matter what happens. death couldn’t even tear them apart. in this particular case, some may say their brotherhood grew even stronger.

devotion to ace is devotion to his real family, it’s putting luffy above everything else, even the cause, because there’s nothing more important to him than his brothers (and thus respecting the vow he had made with ace in the process); it’s infinite affection and love. nothing will shake this.

just as unshakable is his devotion to the cause, but this time we are talking about something more akin to fiery passion than absolute love, a devotion that feels more religious than anything else.

devotion in itself comes with the implied need of selflessness; one cannot be devoted if they’re not willing to put everything on the line for that ardor. sabo would die for his little brother, sabo would die for the cause, sabo did almost die for it, and we see him put himself in danger times and times again for them (and he will keep doing it).

for as selfish as he appears to be, always acting on a whim, always doing what he wants to do, refusing to listen and actually tend to his duties- sabo is fundamentally selfless. he barely ever does things for himself, putting his individual desire of freedom aside in order to fight for the freedom of all. he understands that he can’t be free if everyone else isn’t.

that’s something that becomes even more obvious when compared to mr. selfishness himself, monkey d. luffy. everything luffy does is for himself and he is very upfront about it. he is a pirate, not a hero. very important distinction!

sabo isn’t… exactly like that. everyday he chooses to swallow down his emotions in order to preserve the cause and reach its goal. as chief of staff of the revolutionary army, he understands his responsibilities, and never lets his personal feelings hinder them, luffy being the only exception.

which brings me to what i deem the most fascinating part of it all: the way these two forms of devotion kind of intertwine and contradict each other.

protecting luffy is above the cause for sabo. there is, to him, something worth more of his revolutionary status, and it’s the well-being of his little brother. sabo’s devotion to luffy is the most selfish trait his character possesses, which is laughable since it’s still incredibly fucking unselfish, but it is the same type of paradox that makes up luffy’s whole character, so it works.

his devotion to the cause burns bright, it’s dangerous and powerful, but the unconditional love he has for his family is scorching hot and ready to explode. i think the flames he inherited from the devil fruit of his dead brother, which he was able to track down thanks to the revs’ help, represent this pretty damn well.

How do you think Dionysus would react to one of his kids being fearful about the fact that he’s a god, like in the sense of making him upset in any way would result in some sort of Divine Punishment type of thing? Be completely ignorant to it. Like just blind to it in the way the gods are sometimes. Oh, you were scared of him? He just thought you were really cold all the time, hence the shaking. He's got a lot of kids with sugar addictions and anxiety, so trembling could mean literally anything to him.

It's his stepmom. In episode 3 you can briefly see 'mom' in his chats. Neil refers to her as mom, 'cause she's been his motherfigure for most of his life. His dad remarried pretty early in life. Neil's dad and stepmom are now divorced though. In a later episode, you'll hear Neil refer to her as mom too

Hello all!

Took a sort of accidental hiatus for the month (I was still on tumblr, I just wasn't posting), just to make sure my busy schedule didn't overwhelm me.

However! That does mean I've got quite a bit of work done, both for university and tag :)

You won't be getting a 'done' and 'to-do' list this time, since it's mostly been admin and editing, but I will say that the chapter one update for tag will be coming out this month.

I'm hesitant to give a more specific date this early on, but I'll reblog this post with something more specific once I know.

tell me about crossnamera. To be honest, they’ve never really clicked with me but the fic I’m planning has them be together and I wanna do it well.

Okay, so this will probably be long.

For me, one of the things that make me love crossnamara is about the trust they had with each other.

We don't know much about their relationship pre-portal: Wilbur was MacNamara's mentor, he taught Macnamara all about the creatures he would later leave him to serve. By the way they speak about the other, they might've spent a lot of time together, working on different missions, getting to know the other. Maybe they shared some drinks, maybe they shared some secrets that no one else could understand. After all, not everyone would believe them if they talked about the paranormal, the extraterrestrial or the interdimensional.

Moreover, they might have had other secrets they shared. On one hand, MacNamara is confirmed to be queer by the Langs. On the other, Wilbur reads as the same type of antagonist as Owen, that is, a queer villain (I hc there's something funky going on with his gender too, but that's for another day). By being two queer men working for the government in the early 2000s, they could not only see someone like them (as people wouldn't be as out as they are today), but also they could see someone like them in a field not made for them. They'd have another person to go to.

However, what makes their relationship so interesting to me is how, even if there is/was a deep bond between them, their convictions are greater than any of their feelings. Wilbur will always turn to the Lords in Black, as he believes they'll liberate him and humanity. On the other hand, even if John once loved the person that called himself Wilbur Cross, he'd never let the world die for him. Their love is very important, but, when the chips are down, it won't make much of a difference. Maybe their conversations will be softer, maybe they'll kill the other in a fastest way than they'd do with others, but facing their former partner won't make them stop.

Although during their face-downs they will do what they have to do, I also think they are haunting presences in the other's life. MacNamara sees Wilbur in new cadets and old threats, remembering the person he knew before the portal. Wilbur remembers the man he once trained when he tricks younger folks to enter a world too big for them. It's about absences, and what might be built on them (I also love the headcanon that Wilbur and John switched tags before the portal incident and they've kept them).

TL;DR them..... I need the Langs to give us more info about what happened in 2005, because there's so much (angst) potential.

[Promised Prince AU] moment where Magalor gets his relationship revealed to Kirby and Bandee on accident, expecting them to be really against it and hate him, only for them to be super supportive. After all, both of them have seen their fair share of villain-redemptions and if Magalor trusts Oakley then they can do the same. Honestly, I think the majority of the cast either wouldn't care, wouldn't get the potential danger behind it OR are still supportive anyway.

To some degree this is a fair point, but honest to god I've made a lot of progress having my logic beam locked and loaded during convos w ppl in my community. There have been many times where someone tries to present a right-wing talking point as fact, and i pointed out the inconsistency in it, and then a discussion sparked up around it and the person actually went "...huh. wait. .....hm." and really took a step back to think about things bc they genuinely had never thought it through before. I haven't changed lives, but I have made people more aware of their biases and occasionally people change their minds. It's slow work. But sometimes it does work.

And half the time I only had my logic beam ready to go because of people online breaking down those talking points to show the lies in them. Perhaps that makes me stupid, but I do think there is merit to discussing these things and breaking down the lies in bigoted talking points online and out in public spaces.

At the heart of bigotry is just pure and plain hatred, no logic to it, but occasionally you can help people to realize just how ass-backwards their hatred is and sometimes that even results in people beginning to change and become better people. Not often, but it does sometimes happen!
